Heating and Insulation Solutions for Your Garden Room

With its variety of purposes and uses, a contemporary garden room must be well-heated and insulated for year-round usage.

Whether using your garden room as a home office, a hair and beauty salon, a home gym or an entertainment room, you don’t want to be too cold in winter or hot in the summer.

This is why, at Garden Room Solutions, we install effective and efficient heating, cooling and insulation solutions in every garden room we design and build as standard.

In this blog, we explain the importance of these elements and how we incorporate them into our designs.

The Importance of Proper Insulation

Insulation is an important part of the building of a contemporary garden room because it will help the room maintain a comfortable temperature while keeping energy consumption low and saving money on energy bills.

Good insulation within the walls and roof of the room will keep the warmth in the space throughout the cooler months and the hot air out in the warmer months. This will mean that the room will require less heating to reach and stay at an optimal temperature, and it won’t need much energy to cool down in summer.

This is beneficial for two reasons:

  1. Your energy bills won’t skyrocket with the use of your garden room.
  2. You will enjoy using the garden room more because it is comfortable, meaning it is worth the investment.

Types Of Insulation For Contemporary Garden Rooms

There are a few different types of insulation available for contemporary garden rooms.

  • Foam insulation: this is highly efficient and easy to install when your garden room is built.
  • Fibreglass insulation: this is also highly efficient and a very cost-effective solution, used in walls and ceilings of garden rooms.
  • Reflective insulation: this reflects radiant heat hitting it, meaning the warmth doesn’t escape or enter. It is easy to install and incredibly effective.

Insulation in Our Garden Rooms

At Garden Rooms Solutions, we use 50mm Celotex foam insulation under the flooring and 100mm slab insulation in the walls and ceiling of every garden room we install.

These options are highly effective at keeping the temperature of the space consistent, even as the temperatures outside fluctuate, so you can look forward to using the space all year round.

Efficient Heating Solutions

As with heating a house, there are several options available and a series of things to consider when choosing.

When selecting a heating system, you will need to consider how you intend to use the space, how big the space will be and what else you will be adding to the room.

Types of heating solutions

  • Radiators and heaters – electric heaters and radiators can be installed on the walls and connected to mains electricity.
  • Underfloor heating – this can be fitted before flooring is laid to provide even heat distribution throughout the room.
  • Heat pumps – an environmentally friendly option. However, you will need to think about the space these systems require.
  • Wood-burners – these would create a cosy atmosphere, and they are efficient in heating a space.

Heating Options In Our Contemporary Garden Rooms

As standard with our contemporary garden room design and construction, we will place and connect electric heaters on the walls.

With this option, we will work with you to place them in an ideal location so the room will get the most heat from them.

However, if you wish to personalise your garden room further, we can install underfloor heating.

If you would like to do this, you will need to specify at the planning stages so we can source relevant materials and equipment and factor them into the building process.
