With 82% of UK consumers believing that businesses have a responsibility to protect the environment, it is fair to say that the demand for eco-conscious businesses is growing. This is why at Garden Room Solutions, we are proud of our sustainable and environmentally friendly practices that are part of our commitment to lowering our environmental impact.
Not only are consumers looking for businesses that are climate-aware, but they are also looking for eco-friendly products. This is why all our bespoke garden rooms are functional, energy efficient and use sustainable materials.
No matter what you choose to use your garden room for, be it an office, entertainment room, Air BnB or home gym, most of our standard features have been selected because of their energy efficiency, meaning your additional space doesn’t greatly impact our environment.
In this blog, we run through how we incorporate eco-friendly features into our custom-made garden rooms.

Sustainable Materials
We use timber that is sustainably sourced, choosing local suppliers to reduce the fuel used when transporting them to your site.
As the majority of the structure is made from timber, sourcing it from an eco-friendly supplier is vital to us. Additionally, limiting the amount of travel in this process is important, as it reduces our carbon footprint for each project.
We are also proud to use recycled materials within the smaller parts of our constructions, as the screws used are usually made from recycled metals such as steel or aluminium.
Energy Efficiency
As with any building being constructed these days, energy efficiency is at the forefront of each design. We achieve proficient insulation in a number of ways.
Insulation
No matter what shape or size your garden room is or how you plan to use it, we will always install 50mm Celotex insulation under the flooring and 100mm slab insulation in the walls and ceiling.
This ensures that when heating your space, the heat will stay in the room, and when it is hotter outside, the heat will stay outside. This means you will need less energy to keep the space at a comfortable temperature for year-round use.
Double-Glazed Windows & Doors
Another standard feature of our bespoke garden rooms is double-glazed windows and doors. These ensure that warmth or air conditioning isn’t escaping from your garden room, also working to reduce energy consumption and, therefore, your carbon footprint.
We also offer the opportunity to upgrade any windows and doors to triple-glazing, which would make your space even more energy-efficient.
LED Lighting
We can also install LED lighting features within the room and on the exterior, ensuring that lighting the space requires as little energy as possible.

Durable Roof Coverings
To finish off the structure of your tailored garden room, we install EPDM roof covering that performs to a high standard for decades.
This covering is incredibly long-lasting, reducing the materials needed to keep your roof covered. Typically, EPDM covers will last around 50 years.
Additionally, this material is highly recyclable, so once it does need replacing, it will be used in the construction of other rubber materials and products, decreasing incineration emissions.
Passive Design Principles
We will work with you to design a bespoke garden room that brings your vision to life and functions as you wish.
While you will have the choice to add and position windows and doors as you please, we will always encourage you to embrace natural light, designing the room to let in as much sunlight as possible.
Not only will this boost your mental well-being (especially if using it as a workspace), but it will also reduce your need for internal lights, lowering energy consumption.
